Getting around Siem Reap is not that difficult. This city has different modes of transport that you can choose that can take you to where you want to be. The location is not big which means that there’s a small chance for you to get lost easily when searching for places to dine or drink.

Here are the common modes of transport on getting around Siem Reap, Cambodia:

Walking

The Siem Reap town center is closely organized. This is where most of the happenings occur; with bars, restaurants, cafes, and shops around. You can easily walk to these areas at the center and you can easily choose from different establishments offering their meals and drinks for the day. Crime rate in Siem Reap is low but it is still wise to be cautious.

Bicycle

So many bicycles can be rented in town. This is also one of the best ways for you to get around the center. For as cheap as 1 USD, you can get a good bike that you can even take with you to the temples. Just be careful as traffic rules don’t seem to be followed strictly.

Motorbike Rental

You can’t really rent motorbikes unless it’s part of a packaged tour. You can go to Khmer Ways, or Siem Reap Dirt Bikes, and Hidden Cambodia for big bike rentals.

Tuk-Tuk

Aside from the bike, one of the common modes of transport in Siem Reap are the Tuk-Tuks. These are the taxi versions in this country and you can find tuk-tuk drivers anywhere. Short journeys usually cost 1 USD and you can also hire one for 15 USD per day, depending on the distance. The tuktuk can accommodate a maximum of four people.

Motodop/Moto Taxi

These are motorcycle drivers that you can find hanging around junctions around Pub Street and the Old Market. You might also encounter them while walking as they also find ways to pick passengers up while they are walking. A short distance costs 2000 to 3000 Riel and increases if the destination is farther.

Taxi

Since there are no metered taxicabs in  Siem Reap, hotels usually arrange car hire for temple-hopping and visiting other locations. Prices vary as they depend on the locations; but they normally start at about 25 USD per day, including the driver. If you plan to hire a taxi going to Phnom Penh city or other places in Cambodia, you  can arrange one through travel agencies scattered in the city.

Bus

Bus tickets can be arranged a day prior to the departure so as to reserve seats ahead. You can also arrange the bus agencies to pick you up from your hostel to the station for a minimal fee.

These are the vehicles that you can ride in order to explore the town of Siem Reap, Cambodia. If you get lost, people here are generally friendly and will help you out with a smile when you ask questions. So don’t just stay in your hotel or guesthouse as the night becomes alive and you check out even the small parts of this city by yourself.
